I am certain that I have, over the years, avoided obesity due to the physical requirements and stamina necessary to follow my hobby!

It was the largest shed I would ever visit. It was of Caledonian Railway origin, which was bestowed with 12A as part of the London Midland Region when the coding system was introduced upon nationalisation. Then housing over 140 locomotives, it was only a short time later (May 1950) that it became aligned to the Scottish Region and was recoded 68A. The meddling, costly, bureaucratic authorities, so often prevalent within government-owned organisations, then resigned the shed back to the LMR in February 1958 – returning its code to 12A. And so it stayed until its closure to steam on 1 January 1968. The resultant effect on the former LNWR shed at the south of Carlisle, Upperby, was that it went from 12B to 12A to 12B on the similar dates, closing its doors to steam in December 1966. The third shed at Carlisle, the former North British Railways establishment of Canal, which veered from 12B to 68E to 12C on a similar timescale, closed its doors to steam in June 1963.
